When Fighting “The Cabal” Becomes Another Form of Control
One of the strangest contradictions I keep seeing in Lightworker culture is this constant conversation about “the cabal.” People say there is some hidden structure controlling humanity, manipulating information, controlling money, controlling governments, controlling consciousness, controlling everything. Now, whether you personally believe in a literal cabal or you use that word symbolically to describe corrupt systems, here is the question nobody seems to want to ask: what happens when the people claiming to fight control become obsessed with controlling everybody else?
Think about it. “The cabal is controlling what you think.” Okay. Then five minutes later the Lightworker says, “You shouldn’t watch that news station. You shouldn’t believe that teacher. You shouldn’t eat that food. You shouldn’t take that medicine. You shouldn’t associate with that person. You need to raise your vibration. You need to believe this version of ascension. You need to understand that I know what is really happening.” Excuse me? What happened to sovereignty? You just replaced one alleged authority with another authority — yourself.
This is exactly why spiritual discernment matters. Control does not suddenly become holy because somebody puts the word light in front of it. Manipulation does not become love because somebody says they are doing it “for humanity.” Fear does not become wisdom because the fear is wrapped in language about frequencies, timelines, extraterrestrials, awakening, or ascension. And authoritarian thinking does not become liberation simply because the person giving the orders believes they are fighting authoritarianism.
Here is a simple example. Imagine someone says, “The government wants to tell people what to believe, and that is evil.” Fine. But then that same person runs a spiritual group where anyone who questions the leader is called “low vibration,” “in ego,” “infected by dark energy,” or “working for the cabal.” What exactly changed? The structure is almost identical. There is an approved worldview, an authority who defines reality, and a punishment for questioning it. The vocabulary changed. The power dynamic did not.
Or look at money. Some Lightworkers will tell you that the financial system is corrupt and controlled by elites — but then they will pressure people into buying another activation, another retreat, another certification, another healing session, another “portal,” because supposedly this next purchase is necessary for their spiritual evolution. You cannot scream about financial manipulation while using spiritual fear to sell something. If someone is told that refusing to pay means they are “not ready to receive abundance,” that is not liberation. That deserves scrutiny.
The same thing happens with information. People say mainstream institutions suppress alternative viewpoints, but then inside their own communities they sometimes refuse to tolerate disagreement. Someone asks a legitimate question and suddenly they are “not awakened.” Someone presents contradictory evidence and they are “part of the matrix.” Someone leaves the group and now they have “chosen the dark timeline.” That is not critical thinking. That is a closed belief system protecting itself from criticism.
And this is where the work becomes uncomfortable, because real sovereignty means people are allowed to disagree with us too. If I say I believe in freedom of consciousness, then I have to tolerate the possibility that another human being will examine my worldview and say, “Francisco, I don’t believe that.” Fine. That is their consciousness. That is their discernment. I do not get to demand freedom for myself while denying intellectual freedom to everyone around me.
This is also why OSSA Advocacy matters to me. The proposed framework is not about the government deciding whether chakras are real, whether angels exist, whether ascension exists, whether extraterrestrials communicate with humanity, or whether someone’s spiritual experience is legitimate. That is not the government’s job. The issue begins when belief becomes commercial activity and someone is charging money, making promises, creating dependency, running potentially risky experiences, or claiming authority over vulnerable people.
You want freedom? Then freedom has to work both ways. A practitioner should have the freedom to believe and teach. A consumer should have the freedom to question, leave, decline, request information, understand the cost, know the limitations of the service, and make a decision without being spiritually manipulated.
The greatest irony would be for a movement supposedly created to free humanity from control to recreate the exact psychological architecture of control inside itself.
Maybe the real awakening is not figuring out who supposedly controls the world.
Maybe it is noticing when we start trying to control each other.
Spirituality is protected. Commercial activity is accountable.
